Solar Eclipse June 10 2021
Jun. 13th, 2021 01:49 pmBelow is the chart for the Solar Eclipse on June 10th, 2021 as seen from Washington, DC:

Introduction
The important thing to know before we proceed is that Eclipses, in traditional mundane astrology, are always malefic. They aren't portals to the Higher Vibrational Space Realm or anything of that nature, despite claims you might find floating around the New Age end of the astrological blogosophere. Are they portents of disaster? Not necessarily. Every year sees at least 2 solar eclipses, and may see as many as 5. What that means is that, here in this world below the Sphere of the Moon, there's always trouble to be had. The fact of an eclipse doesn't tell us there will be trouble-- anyone who lives in the material world and is over the age of five or so already knows that. Rather, the placement of the eclipse by sign, house, aspect and duration tells us something about what kind of trouble we can expect and how long it can be expected to endure.
According to one theory, lunar eclipses indicate difficulties for the people generally, solar eclipses for the government and political system. I do not know if that is true-- let's keep it in mind and see if experience bears it out.
One other thing to keep in mind is that the above chart show us the eclipse as seen from Washington, D.C. It is, therefore, the case that what I have to say here is applicable to the United States of America and only the United States of America. Every eclipse impacts the whole world to some extent, but the impact of any specific country has to be worked out by casting a chart for that country at the time of the
That said, let's look at this particular eclipse, and see what we can learn about what kind of trouble we can expect to face in the United States of America.
The Eclipse
Let's begin with the Eclipse itself, which is to say, the conjunction of the Moon and the Sun. This takes place in the sign of Gemini, in the Twelfth House. The Eclipse is closely conjunct Mercury, and trine Saturn.
The Twelfth House is a difficult one. It is the house of secrets and hidden enemies; it also rules hospitals, prisons, crime and the underworld. But it's also the house of national institutions generally. the Eclipse in this house suggests, as the previous lunar eclipse did, a slow burn of bad news. Declining trust in national institutions is a major problem in the United States; this will continue to worsen over the period influenced by this Eclipse.
The Twelfth House suggests secret crimes, and also deaths in high places. We may see a Supreme Court judge die during this time-- or my longstanding prediction of Joe Biden's death in office may finally come true.
Gemini is an Air sign, and, as such, portends destructive storms, probably in the form of a hurricane or blizzard on the East Coast. (That is the most obvious prediction anyone has ever made, and I don't know if it even counts as a prediction since it is guaranteed to come true. Nevertheless, it is there and should be said.) Eclipses in Air signs also indicate foreign trouble and difficulty between nations. The Sign of Air is represented in the Tarot by the suit of swords, and often suggests the severing of relationships.
As the Eclipse lasted for one hour and forty minutes, its effects can be expected to endure for one year and eight months-- and so, until February, 2023.
The First House and Its Ruler
This eclipse takes place in the sign of Cancer, which is ruled by the Moon. The Moon, taken by herself and not as a part of the Ecilpse, is in a rather difficult position. She is harmed by a conjunction with the Sun, representing the president, and a square to Neptune, who rules the Tenth House of the Executive Branch. This suggests quite simply that the federal government is, during this time, actively working against the interests of the majority of the American people.
In a Mundane chart, the first house and its ruler represent the people generally; the Moon represents the most politically active segment of the population. In this chart, the Moon is doing double duty, and represents, more or less, the entire population of the United States. That means that, unlike in the case of last month's lunar eclipse, the baleful indicators of this chart apply to everyone...
With one possible exception. The benefic planet Venus is also in the first house, and this is a very good sign; she is making a trine to Jupiter, the other great benefic planet, and that is even better. Jupiter is in Pisces, the sign of Venus's exaltation; Venus is in Cancer, the sign of Jupiter's exaltation. Jupiter is in the Ninth House, approaching the Tenth House cusp; and in Pisces, which is under Neptune, who rules the Tenth House. The Ninth House is the House of the Supreme Court; the Tenth, the House of the Executive Branch. Even as most of the country suffers the effects of this eclipse, one, fairly prominent, segment of the population will be benefited by Judicial action backed by Executive authority-- or vice versa. It wouldn't surprise me if this was some form of reparations for slavery, enacted by executive fiat and confirmed by the courts.
Mercury
The most important indicator, to my mind, about the eclipse is Mercury. Mercury is Hermes' planet, and Gemini is Hermes' sign. Hermes is remembered as the herald and messenger of the gods, but he has a darker side to that isn't always recalled. As a divine messenger, he moves between the Upper World and the Lower World, and he guides souls to Hades.
In Aeschylus's play The Libation Bearers, Electra, daughter of the murdered King Agamemnon, stands at her father's grave and prays:
What all of this suggests to me is, above all, what was at one time called "Chickens coming home to roost" and can more accurately be termed "blowback." In occult theory, this is a technical term that refers to the consequences of malefic magic-- in order to fling a curse at another, the sorcerer has to fill his own aura with the destructive energy. The result is that the curse plays out in the magician's life as well as that of his victim. Intelligence agencies, meanwhile, use the term "blowback" specifically to refer to negative consequences of foreign operations. In this case, both definitions are operative. The United States, after it achieved global supremacy following World War II, frequently used its power in a destructive manner. Moreover, the destructive use of American power was often supported by large segments of the population, who benefited directly or indirectly, from the use of American power to limit competition on the international stage.
The following may be unpopular among readers of this blog, but I honestly think that many of the problems that the United States is currently facing are karmic blowback for the Bush years and the excesses during the Cold War that preceded them.
Consider that the impact of the worst problems the nation faces are falling most heavily on the rural, white population-- the population that actively supported the administration of George W. Bush when it was invading foreign countries on flimsy pretexts, installing massive surveillance regimes here at home, and controlling its followers by stirring up fear about Muslim terrorists lurking around every corner. Now the federal government has declared that "white supremacy," a dog whistle for "white poor people," is the greatest threat the nation faces, and intends to use the "antiterrorism" apparatus created by the Bush regime against them. This is on top of the devastation in working class white America created by the so-called "opioid epidemic," which is actually a combination of drugs, alcohol, and suicide and which has gone unaddressed by the federal government since it began 25 years ago. Rather than masked Muslim terrorists lurking around every corner, white supremacists now lurk around every corner, and need to be forced to wear masks.
This shouldn't be taken as an endorsement of Joe Biden, the Democratic Party, or the American left. The reality is that we are all have karma to discharge, and we are all given a choice as to whether we will take up another's karmic burden or not. Someone might really have a punch in the face coming to him, but if you choose to give it to him, his karma is released, and yours is worsened.
This suggests that there is a way out of karma generally, and-- in contrast to some, I ought to say-- I believe strongly that there is. What if no one was willing to take on the burden of punching someone in the face, even though he had it coming? I think that this is why one of the great masters of magic taught his followers the following:
That's a good point-- but the answer, in my view, is that he may need the punch to the face, but it can only be given without burden by one who can give it only in the spirit of justice, and that one can only be one who has a full and entire understanding of justice, what it is, and what it means--
Not by a human being, in other words, which is why another master in the initiatory tradition just mentioned taught his followers:
Conclusion
For the next few years or so, difficulties from many and often hidden quarters will face the United States. These are rooted, ultimately, in our national karma, in our past actions. My advice, and of course it isn't mine, is:
In Aeschylus's plays about the House of Atreus, Agamemnon was murdered by his wife, Clytemnestra, for the crime of sacrificing their daughter to the Gods. Clytemnestra is murdered in turn by her son, Orestes. Orestes is acting on the command of Apollo, but nevertheless his act leads to the Furies being unleashed from darkest Tartaros and sent to torment him. The cycle of American politics is very much like the cycle of the House of Atreus, one ill turn giving rise to another, administration after administration, decade after decade. This eclipse illustrates one more turn of this cycle.
There was a small and now extinct society of Taoist Christians in medieval China who believed that Jesus had broken the cycle of reincarnation. I don't know if this is true, but I would suggest that following the teachings above may help us to break the cycle of retaliatory authoritarianism that we are living with in the United States, at least in a small way, at least in our own lives.

Supreme herald of the realm above and the realm below, O Hermes of the nether world, come to my aid, summon to me the spirits beneath the earth to hear my prayers, spirits that watch over my father's house, and Earth herself, who gives birth to all things, and having nurtured them receives their increase in turn. And meanwhile, as I pour these lustral offerings to the dead, I invoke my father...
I utter these prayers on our behalf, but I ask that your avenger appear to our foes, father, and that your killers may be killed in just retribution. So I interrupt my prayer for good to offer them this prayer for evil.
The Twelfth House more than any other house is the House of the Underworld. Mercury, moving backwards in this house, suggests the return of things forgotten-- or the releasing of spirits of vengeance from the Nether World. Mercury is trine Saturn, the planet of retributive justice, and he is afflicting both the Sun, ruler of the government, and the Moon, ruler of the people. I utter these prayers on our behalf, but I ask that your avenger appear to our foes, father, and that your killers may be killed in just retribution. So I interrupt my prayer for good to offer them this prayer for evil.

One might respond-- but what if only the punch to the face will allow our man to release his karma, and no one is willing to give it to him? Is this really just? That's a good point-- but the answer, in my view, is that he may need the punch to the face, but it can only be given without burden by one who can give it only in the spirit of justice, and that one can only be one who has a full and entire understanding of justice, what it is, and what it means--

I have my own theories on what's coming but I refuse to state them on the grounds I might be canceled.
