Below is the chart for the Spring Equinox as seen from Washington, D.C. The Spring Equinox or "Ingress" chart, for any unfamiliar, is cast for the exact moment the Sun enters into the sign of Aries, and marks the beginning of the astrological year.

In Mundane Astrology, the Spring Ingress is the most important chart of all, as it is used to track the influences which will govern the whole year until the next Spring Equinox.

As always, please take the following as hypothesis, not prophecy.

And with that said, let's dive in, and see what the gods have in store for us in 2021!

Preliminary Remarks

Before we get started, I want to point out the position of Saturn in this chart. If you're not familiar with the methods of reading an astrological chart, look for this symbol:

That's Saturn. Do you see him on the left, there? In an astrological chart, everything is backwards from an ordinary map. The horizontal line represents the Earth's horizon, with east on the left, west on the right, and south, representing the sun's position at midday, at the top. Saturn is just above the eastern horizon. Pay attention to this position. I've looked at other charts which clearly forecast war, and Mars was in this exact position. Saturn is not the god of war, but he is the other great malefic planet of the ancient cosmos, and his presence on the horizon is an ill omen. What does it signify? Let's see if we can figure it out as we make our way through the chart.

The Sun and Moon

The Sun represents the head of state in a mundane chart; Joe Biden, in our case.

The Sun's position in this chart is rather interesting. He is approaching the cusp of the Second House, conjunct the benefic planet Venus, and distantly conjunct, or perhaps separating from a conjunction, with Neptune.

The Sun in the Second House suggests that Biden's focus in the coming year will be on the economy-- appropriately enough. The separating conjunction to Neptune suggests that Biden will forego the socialistic approach that many in his party will advocate. Neptune is in his rulership in this chart, but in an intercepted sign; this suggests that while the socialist opposition will be loud, they will be unable to accomplish their goals. Instead, the conjunction to Venus, who rules the Third and Eighth Houses in this chart suggests that Biden is likely to pursue policies approved by the technology and media giants, multinational organizations like the World Economic Forum, and the Chinese government.

The Sun is sextile to Pluto, which further suggests Biden's ties to shadowy organizations which will not be named here.

Finally, there is some chance that Biden will die in office this year. This is because Venus is the ruler of the Eighth House of death. If so, it will come as a blessing to the aged president.

The Moon represents the people as a whole, or, at least, the faction of them that's loud enough to make their voices heard. The Moon in our chart is rather active. in the Fourth House in Gemini, separating from a conjunction with Mars, trine Jupiter and Saturn, and square Neptune. The Fourth House is an angular house, which gives the Moon power; it specifically represents the people in the interior of the country, and also the opposition party. This suggests that people of Red State America are going to make their voices heard in a major way this year. The conjunction with Mars suggests a warlike mood prevailing among them, and the square to Neptune, natural ruler of socialism, suggests who their target might be. Expect repeats of last summer's violence, but far less one-sided. Riots, street clashes between Antifa/BLM and their opposite numbers, and even open insurrection in the interior are all possibilities. Now, that may not happen-- the separation from Mars suggests that cooler heads may prevail, and we may see less violence, but we will certainly see large scale, populist-based political organizing.

The trine to Saturn and Jupiter tells us that it's not all bad news. The ongoing situation will have some economic benefit (Jupiter) in flyover country. Meanwhile, segments of the traditional elite and the conservative movement are moving to support the populists.

Let's make our way around the circle of Houses and see what else we can find.

The First House represents the population as a whole, and in this chart it has a lot going on with it.

For starters, notice that three separate signs, Aquarius, Pisces, and Aries, are all contained within the First House. We have a number of planets here-- Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, and Neptune, with Venus and the Sun at the tail end of the House-- and they're scattered across all three signs. To my mind, this already suggests division among the people.

As the cusp of the House is in Aquarius, the house ruler is Uranus, and that's where the bad news begins. Uranus is in his fall in Taurus, in the cadent Third House, square Saturn. To my mind, the Uranus-Saturn square which dominates the heavens at this time is the emblem of the political turmoil in our country. Uranus represents modern technology, Saturn, tradition; Uranus also represents sudden change, Saturn, order; Saturn represents restriction while Uranus represents the urge toward freedom. Lockdowns, abuses of power by big tech companies, cancel culture and changing social mores will all take center-stage this year.

Just above the horizon and conjunct the first house cusp, Saturn predicts poverty, disease, and restriction; his affliction with Uranus tells us that travel restrictions and the like will continue to contribute to the poor economic situation.

Jupiter, on the other hand, is a fortunate omen, and notice that he is exactly conjunct the First House cusp. This is Jupiter's symbol, if you are unfamiliar: ♃. The conjunction to the First House cusp and the trine to the Moon tells us that some fraction of the population is going to do well this year, even as another part suffers. Now, Jupiter also rules the Tenth House, representing the Executive Branch, in this house. This suggests that a certain fragment of the population may benefit from direct government intervention, even as another part suffers.

Mercury in this house is an unfortunate omen. Mercury is in his Fall and Detriment in Pisces, and is square to Mars. As Mercury rules both movement and communication, this suggests a great deal of mutual hostility among people, possibly including riots, street conflicts between rival protesters, and more than the usual amount of online hostility. This is reinforced by Mercury's sextile to Uranus; both are trickster planets, and Uranus is the Lord of Chaos; together they can cause a great deal of confusion, hard words, and hostility.

Neptune in this house suggests that socialistic groups and movements, including BLM and Antifa, and the socialist wing of the Democratic Party, will be active this year, but will have less than usual success, as they are less able to make their voices heard (Neptune intercepted in the First House). Is this because it's not an election year, and so the tame media are less inclined to use the socialists to stir up resentment among the voting pouplation? I leave it to the reader to speculate.

The Second House rules the nation's wealth. The House Cusp is in Aries, ruled by Mars; the Sun and Venus are conjunct the House cusp.

As Second House ruler, Mars's position is mixed. He is in Gemini, where he has no especial dignity. He gains strength from his conjunction to the Moon and from the Fourth House, but he is weakened by a square to Mercury, who rules Gemini and who is badly afflicted in Pisces. This further suggests economic turmoil in some sectors but not in others, an inequality which is very likely to provoke conflict.

As we've seen before, the conjunction of the Sun to the House Cusp suggests that the president (and his successor?) will focus on the economy, with mixed results.

The Third House rules transportation and communication; in modern times, it is the House of the Internet. The Third House is in Taurus, and Uranus is conjunct the House Cusp. The presence of Uranus suggests ongoing disruptions in the mail and ongoing conflict over lockdowns and censorship by media and big tech companies, and more wars of words in the media and on the internet. The position of Venus reinforces this: She is conjunct the Sun, a condition called "combustion" which is metaphorically described as the planet being "blinded" or "burned" by the Sun's rays; she is conjunct Neptune, the ruler of delusion. This suggests that confusion, wrath, and mental chaos will continue to prevail online and on television.

At the same time and not contradictory to the foregoing, Pisces is the sign of Venus's exaltation. This suggests that we will see at least one major success in Third House affairs. Given Venus's conjunction to the Second House, this is likely to be economic-- job growth in the technology and/or delivery sectors seem likely.

The Fourth House represents the interior of the country, the farms and mines, and the opposition party. The House Cusp is in Gemini, which is ruled by Mercury. As we've already seen, Mercury is in a very bad position, afflicted in Pisces and square to Mars, who is himself on the Fourth House cusp. This further suggests a mood of agitation and rebellion in flyover country which is ready to explode this year. The Moon is present here, as we've seen, and is square to Neptune. This is rather unfortunate, as Neptune does not have any real power in this chart. One very unfortunate aspect of American politics is the way that racial politics are used to direct segments of the working and lower classes to fight against one another, directing attention away from the elite which exploits both. Readers familiar with 19th century racial politics may remember this cartoon from the Atlantic Monthly, roughly illustrating the point:

The conflict between Neptune and the Moon in this chart suggests that this will be an ongoing issue this year. The only difference between today and the 1800s is that we have a MAGA-hat redneck rather than an apelike Irishman; then as now, they are being pitted against one another by elites who benefit from their mutual hostility. (Of course, as American "redneck" culture is descended from Scots-Irish culture, the difference isn't really that great at all.)

The Fifth House represents the entertainment industry and also financial speculation. As the House Cusp is in Gemini, Mercury rules this house too, with all the attendant problems. Expect the rebellion against Wall Street begun by the redditors (ironically, depicting themselves as apes!) on r/wallstreetbets to continue, and expect more financial failures, rape scandals, and fan rebellions to afflict the entertainment industry.

The Sixth House represents public health, and also the working class and the military. As the House Cusp is in Cancer, the ruler is the Moon. The Moon, as we've seen, is separating from Mars and is afflicted by a square to Neptune, but benefits from a trine to Jupiter and a separating trine to Saturn. The Moon is generally not a good omen for the Sixth House, and the mixed state of the Moon suggests that the Coronavirus situation will stay with us this year, with some improvements and some ongoing issues. The separating trine to Saturn suggests that restrictions which may have improved health will be lifted, with positive economic results but ongoing health effects.

The Seventh House represents foreign nations and war. As the House Cusp is in Leo, the Sun is its ruler. The Sun's position in this chart tells us that there is no danger of war this year. A foreign, socialist government represented by Neptune may have undue influence over the American economy and American government. The conjunction of the Sun to Venus suggests that the Biden administration may pursue peace in at least one of the warzones in which the USA is already involved; however, the conjunction to Neptune suggests that this may be delusional and nothing will come of it.

The Eighth House represents foreign wealth; it also represents death. As the House Cusp is in Libra, Venus is its ruler. The position of Venus in this chart suggests the involvement of foreign money in the American presidency and the American economy. It also suggests, as I said above, the possibility that President Biden may die in office this year. Finally, we may see a new trade deal, negotiated by Biden, which has some measurably positive impact on the American economy.

The Ninth House represents the Supreme Court, immigration, "colonial" affairs, religion and higher education. As the cusp of the House is in Scorpio, the ruler is Mars, whose condition we've already considered. Mars's position in the Fourth House could be read as the Supreme Court siding with the opposition and the rural population against the Biden Administration. But I wonder. Mars is a malefic planet, and it afflicts both the ruler of the Fourth House, Mercury, and the Moon, representative of the people. It may, rather, be the case that the law will be used punitively against the opposition and the Flyover Class, further sparking rebellion among them. Mars's trine to Saturn, ruler of restrictions, authority, and lockdowns, suggests that this is probably the best interpretation. But we'll see.

The Tenth House rules the Executive Branch of government as distinct from the president himself. As the House cusp is in Saggitarius, the ruler  is Jupiter, whose position we've considered already. Jupiter is conjunct the Ascendant and trine the Moon, which suggests that at least some factions within the Executive Branch bureaucracy are going to try to help the people of this country, and will succeed to some extent in doing so. The question is whether that will be sufficient to ameliorate the anger represented by Mars and by the Saturn-Uranus square. The answer is that we will have to wait and see, and by this time next year we'll be better able to judge such questions.

The Eleventh House represents Congressm, especially the House of Representatives. As the House Cusp is in Saggitarius Jupiter rules this House too, with everything that entails. I strongly suspect that certain members of Congress-- probably the radical faction in the Democratic Party-- are going to push forward with various measures intended to help their constituency, including the various minority populations that compose the radical wing of the Democratic Party's coalition. They will have some success, as we've seen, but this will not extend to the rural population or the white segment of hte working class, who will notice and resent it.

The Twelfth House represents national institutions, prisons and factories, and hidden enemies. As the House Cusp is in Capricorn, Saturn is its ruler. This tells us something more about the battlefield on which the Uranus-Saturn square will play out. Saturn is square Uranus, ruler of the First House, and trine Mars and the Moon. To my mind, this suggests our traditional institutions will come under increasing fire this year, as they continue to lose trust among large segments of the population. This won't be universal, though. The trine to the Moon, ruler of public health and the working class, suggests a strong support for Saturnine institutions among a large segment of the population. The placement and the chart as a whole are strongly suggestive of public disorder and deep divisions in the country being opened up by the chaos of the preceding year. Are those divisions ready to explode this year? One way or another, we're going to find out.
